In early January, I learned that Ron at Fancy Kitty had come up with a smaller, more portable, but no less functional picker. It's the Mini Picker, and despite my level 1 Master Spinners teachers adamance about pickers being evil implements of torture (My words, not hers! but that's the jist of it!) I bought one. It's a bench style picker, and though I've only used it once, I give it an A+. This thing is brilliant.
It came in yesterday, and before I took it to some fibre, I stained it! Royal Mahogany MinWax. It's purple lovelyness now!
Isn't it pretty?
This is the Shetland fleece I put through it in maybe 15 minutes. There is about 7oz here
Before
After the first picking
After the second run through
This is a really fun new tool! I know it's going to up my productivity. Less time spent picking locks =more time carding and spinning!

I am jealous. I want one, but then I would have to have to get more locks as well...
ReplyDeleteMy stash is far to out of hand, and mostly fibres that need to / can be picked. (There are some fibres I would never run through there, but medium grade wools that will be lovely woollen yarns, for sure!)
DeleteIt was a required investment. One day I'm sure you will feel the same, since how can anyone not want more raw fleece! Lol
Love this. I'll have to check them out! I've looked at pickers before but they're always so big, its awesome that this one is a manageable size.
ReplyDeleteThis one is the perfect size if like me, you have 2lbs or so of one fleece, and 2 or 3 lbs if another, or 7 oz of this and 6 oz of that. And it will tuck into a closet like no other picker I've found. And the price is great for the workmanship. It's a good solid piece of equipment. It sounds like I work for them or something, but I'm just a really happy customer!
